I had dreams again. things seem to be happened or not happened before. but everything back to the days it was. it's almost 1.5 year, and the journey is going to be finished. Somehow, it's an experience to let me know how big is the world, and how tiny a man can be. my feeling is more calm now. Seem, nothing really matter, nothing is more important. it's a good to finish something i really looking forward for years and years, but when it happened, it was sad that there's no longer someone you can share your feelings to.

I lost everything when i choose to leave, while everyone tell you, you will gain more. i lost the passion about life, Sounds like it is too depressive, but i had never been to any optimistic before anyway. everything can end right now. though sometimes life is not what can choose, but also responsibilty to others. i had so many things i wish i can talk to, but all end with tears.

A Visit with Bianca Runge

What do you think about the role of art and design?
We need bizarre imaginative, constructive, refined, poetic, perfect, wrong, intense, rebellious, colorful, confusing and beautiful art to grow as humans and as a society.

 Which Artist did most influence on you?
'One meter-one step' from Stanley brown enlightened me. It opened the contemporary art world for me. If one meter could express that much there are so many possibilities! Also Renee Magritte influenced me with his surreal art questioning everything we see and think the world is about.

Where is your inspiration comes from?
Influences and inspiration come from mass media, films, art, nature, internet, music. I am curious by nature and open to new experiences. I travel in mind and I love films to watch a movie. Movie with a 'mind switch' i love the best. A film like fight club, the matrix or doctor Parnassus. I also love visual 'explosions' and was flabbergasted by the graphics of Avatar and 3d images (not the story) Nature is necessary to me, I find peace walking and living where I live. Internet is one of the best things ever invented. Everything can be found and shared. Due to internet I stay connected with the world and art scene since l moved to the countryside. I like to go dancing on 'dark' Drum & Bass and listen to soundscapes by biosphere or plasticman. 'The bridge' by love Amon Tobin is my all times favourite. My boyfriend is a very good dj and musician. He keeps me up to date in experimental music. I prefer silence when i work- the sound of the world i live in.

What is the difference between commercial and art?
Commercial art or design is save, it's made to tell people the world is okey and to tell them they don't have to think about anything. Commercial stuff tells people they there purpose in live is the right to have pleasure and get the money to buy stuff to give them that pleasure.
Art is about questioning the world. It questions what we see and what we do. Contemporary art is not made to make people comfortable but to take us on a journey into another way of thinking. It's not said it shouldn't be beautiful but there is always something 'itchie' about it. Your mind should always be wondering what is sees and everyday it tells you something else. Good art or design gives you a mirror in how you think or feel. It's made to bring people further, to activate there imagination and give them new insights.

What is the most important problems you face nowadays in Art?
Art was always something special. Nowadays in Holland there's just a little group which underscribes the importancy of art. Money always reserved for art and culture is being withdrawn by politicians who think art should be 'marktconform' Artist and exhibition spaces should make there own money and be independent. But without support autonoumus art can't excist. They don't see art is, like science, important for a society to grow.

Has the Art changed since you had started work?
Can you find yourself in the development which experiences the art design?
I think art is an ongoing proces and will ever chance. It's great to see thnings develop. It's show how many way there are to look at things.

How many hours did you work a day?
Iwork about 8 to 10 hours a day - 7 days a week since work as an artist never stops. I am the one employe of the small company 'bianca runge'. besides the actual making of art i am also director, manager, office manager, doing logistics and acquisitional work etc

How many hours did you spend on inspiration?
Inspiration comes from all around, "the flow' is everywhere and always there. It's not to measure in time. Time is a non excistent factor in 'inspiration land'!

Can you introduce some of your work?
I question reality by cutting holes in 'reality'. I work photos from existing photography books and magazines by taking the subject out of them. Pin-ups lose their skin but expose themselves. Nakedness is nowhere to be seen and yet a feeling of seduction remains. By placing layer upon layer of pages with the subject remove, peepholes to the following page come to exist. Fish and landscapes are treated in the same manner. Where the eye thinks it has found something to hold on to a view is given to the next layer. Surprising and associative connections are created in this way.

Do you want to collaborate with people in Asia?
Yes i would love to colloborate with people in Asia. I am curious and fascinated by Asian culture. Hong Kong must be great and visual stimulating with all colours and stuff to see there. I think it's great people on earth are all so different and yet all the same. I am fascinated by the colours wich seems to explode from images of HongKong. I strated my own small and travelling museum for contemporary art: museum Le Secet. I want to make the website a virtual museum. The museum collaborates with various contemporary artists to make there own exhibitions. Maybe we could collaborate with an exchange (the museum and the works are scaled 1:20 - that;s how I - being an artist- are able to have a museum :) check www.lesecet.nl

How do you think of Hong Kong Art?
i think Hong Kong contemporary art is not to be described local anymore. Hong Kong artist are, like in the western world, individuals who study reality of the world they live in by painting,s, sculpture and all kind of centemporary techniques. They look behind there borders and are curious and open to new influences. I looked into HYPERLINK "http://www.hongkongartweb.com/hkaw/artist.html"http://www.hongkongartweb.com/hkaw/artist.html and if there wasn't written 'HongKong artist you could have convinsed me they come from somewhere totally else like Europe.

What makes dutch art and design different from other countries?
That's not an easy question. I think art is universal and practiced by individuals who use techniques they find suitable to express themselves. There is one thing i could say about Dutch art and Design what makes us different we are so called 'nuchter' translated the best in words like 'sober' or 'literal' and can see humor in being like that. We are not afraid to reduce things to what they are and start from scratch to find new ways to look at the simple things in live. That makes dutch designers like in 'Droog design" so special. But also autonomous artist deduce paint to paint and fabric to fabric to start all over again from scratch an make something new with it. I myself 'cut holes in reality' it's about the nothing in between things. I can always smile telling people 'my work is about nothing' i am very serious about it but it is fun also in a world where everything should have meaning. Dutch artist are very serious about what they do but always keep there feet on the ground and use see humor to reflect on things. After all we are humans who are born, eat, shit, fuck, learn and die. I think (self)reflection is a good word to express dutch art.

 Why did you choose collage as the format to make your art?
Art to me is about questioning reality. The most direct way for me to interact with reality is to use existing images. They reflect the world we live in. I wanted to find out what's behind everything and that's why I started cutting holes in images: Is there more to live than what we see? I create visually stimulating experiences where the mind can't get grip on [but thinks it can] The works are about space and about letting go. Like a visual meditation: there is no focus.

What is your creative process like?
I start cutting away the subjects that matter out of existing images. This subject could be human skin, a body of a fish, a castle or tree in a landscape. The remainder is what it is all about. By placing layer upon layer of pages with the subject removed, peep-holes to the following page come to exist. Where the eye thinks it has found something to hold on to - a view is given to the next layer. Associative and new connections are created this way. Then the collages are scanned and enlarged to print on paper or fabric. It almost makes it possible to step into my world. Small pearls or paint are added to accentuate the dots or so called pixels of the original.

 What kind of books and magazines do you take the images from?
Mostly second hand books with lot's and lot's of pictures of fish or beautiful landscapes. I love to use water and its reflections. In my earlier work I used old Pin-up books and the Belgian glossy magazine''Snoecks' There is something about old books that attracts me. Also the 'pixels' you see I find interesting. They are like a universe full of coloured stars. If you look closely and imagine the white of the paper or fabric as space instead of flat paper the work opens up.

 Do you know exactly what you want when you start a collage or is there a lot of improvisation and experimentation in the process?
My collages are all about experiment and coincidence. I could say the works reveal themselves to me. The surprise of discovering something new is great. It takes time, and only after some months i can say a work is good enough to show it to the world
 What are your influences and sources of inspiration?

 Where does your fascination with fish and aquatic creatures come from?
We discover new species on earth every year: in 2008 for example the 'psychedelic fish which, not quite fishlike, hops around and uses his fins to get grip on rocks like a feet. It could be a work of mine come to live! Fish and aquatic creatures hover, gravity doesn't seem to matter. They are different, like from another planet. I love the way they look all different and colourful. I am truly flabbergasted that humanity destroys nature in an amazing tempo while on the other hand seeking for life on other planets.
Jayiant Cavale [The Fiendish] says about my work 'Like how a fish could never make sense of the magnitude of the ocean, perhaps humans can never estimate the Universe’s worth. Lost in an ocean of de-fragmented scientific, spiritual, and artistic information, human mind seeks to make sense of an ocean, which is otherwise unfathomable. The corals on the ocean floor have been deftly created using materials. Bianca’s collages seem to reflect man’s eternal quest for meaning, while his ideas and thoughts stay afloat over the ocean like straw, while an abyss lies under placidly.' I think that says it all.

What do you want to provoke or transmit with your work?
I use allure to carry myself and others along into the depths. I’m not concerned with making statements about femininity. Let alone that I would use a politically correct statement about fish. My work is about associations and the psychic energy that surfaces in the consciousness. The collages bring hidden associations and meanings. I provide an opportunity to explore different dimensions within one’s mind. Sometimes the mind is blank for a moment. Silence. That moment is sacred.

 What can you tell us of your book “:no subject”?
:no subject is a book about image associations, stratification and [structured] chaos. Graphic design by Nicole Martens. She translated my works into a book: :no subject tells no tales, and is devoid of any logical order or structure. The book is similar to non-linear narratives, and there is no particular order, besides colour, in which the collages are placed within the book. Like the images itself she made a book without subject

 What can you tell us of the arts scene in the Netherlands?
In the Netherlands we have a lot of interesting artist run spaces where artist experiment and exchange ideas and show there work. In the past we had an art supportive government, nowadays art and culture start loosing there credits. Artist never give up to believe in the importancy of art. I live in a outside region of the Netherlands. There is no contemporary art museum in this district. That's why i started my own museum. It's actually an artist run space but we act like a real, and virtual, museum. I try to infiltrate in the world of museums and use there imago to get the attention for the art we want to show. Museum Le Secet (note: not Secret - no r in it) shows contemporary [international] artist and local art initiatives. A collection will be build up from participating artists. Branches will open in 6 cities to make the travelling exhibitions visible in totally 7 cities. Of course Amsterdam included. Artists curate exhibitions to show contemporary artist they find interesting. Maybe I should also tell the scale of museum Le Secet is 1:20 - It's all about imagination! Artist love it, they can realise and show great work without high costs. Future plan is to do research on branchepartners in foreign countries.

What are your upcoming projects?
The official launch of my New York Gallery is scheduled for early October in a fabulous Chelsea space. It started as an online Gallery HYPERLINK "http://www.lebazart.com/"http://www.lebazart.com/ They have some of my fish collages in stock.
In November there is a possibility that my work will be shown in a group show in the most inspiring art exhibition space in Europe. It's in Belgium and called 'Verbeke Foundation' . It's a mix of a museum and an art space. If you ever come to visit Europe and love raw an meaningful contemporary art it's really worth paying a visit! Many paintings attributed to Frans Hals are disputed there authenticity. Art and authenticity is an interesting subject. Especially with todays digital reproduction technology and the internet. What is real and why do people find authencity so important? I shall spent my time reading, exploring and working excisting photgraphs, books etc. I shall share links and works to the camping blog and look forward to meet other camping guest there.
